Part of the 2022 Picking Team

Seasonal Harvest Work

We offer seasonal work for anyone who is self-motivated, punctual, has good attention to detail, & can regularly work full days over the harvest between Late-June & Early-August.

What We Offer:

We are currently taking details for anyone who is interested in helping us with our cherry harvest.
No commitment is required at this time as we will get back to you closer to the harvest for more details.

Roles & Job Descriptions

Employees can, and are encouraged to, train in multiple roles enabling them to switch between jobs especially when we are short-handed in an area or they would like to work extra hours.
Please note these same Role / Job Descriptions can also be found in the Application Form.

Picking Work

All our fruit is handpicked & requires a team of pickers working throughout the day, carefully picking only the ripe fruit without damaging it. No previous picking experience required; we train all pickers new to the farm.

This role involves working independently (other pickers aren't far away), and pickers are welcome to listen to their own music on headphones while they work. Pickers are provided with all the necessary picking equipment, which they are required to look after and clean as instructed.

Our trees are kept relatively short so the fruit can be easily reached but anyone requiring a small picking ladder or steps will be provided with one and they are light and easily moved around the orchard.
A picker will be on their feet and carefully moving around the trees all day, which is perfect for anyone wanting to keep fit & active during the summer while they work.

Each picker's work is monitored both for quality & quantity to ensure consistency and to reward good work.

Grading Work

All our fruit is sorted by hand to ensure our customers get a consistent, high-quality product. Once the fruit is picked & has been brought in from the orchard, we require graders to go through them, removing any sub-standard cherries and weighing them out into punnets for sale. No previous experience required; we train all graders new to the farm on how to grade to ensure consistent quality.

Each grader gets a booth in the farm shop where they will work as part of a team to keep the shop stocked with fresh fruit. The grading desks are designed for both sitting & standing work, as to individual preference. All grading equipment is provided, and graders are required to look after the equipment, and to keep it, and the shop clean & tidy at all times. Headphones are prohibited as they prevent communication between the team, but a radio/speaker is provided for shop staff to listen to appropriate music quietly while they work.

Each grader's work is monitored both on quality & quantity to ensure consistency and to reward good work.

Tractor Work

We occasionally require assistance collecting fruit from the orchard & transporting it to the farm shop for grading. The person working in this role is required to weigh & record everything each picker has done.

Between collections, this person would be required to pick. Before being considered for this role, our tractor driver would first have to be a competent picker as they need to monitor the quality of the other pickers & highlight any potential issues.

No experience is required as training will be provided but experience with towing trailers is helpful.

Please note that this role is occasional as we tend to do this part ourselves, but it is helpful to have someone to fill in on days or at times when we are otherwise occupied.

The Farm Shop - 2022

Shop Work

We require a few personable & friendly individuals to staff the selling desk & deal with the customers. This person is also required to manage the stock & the graders, ensuring there is enough of each punnet size & variety.

While not selling or dealing with the stock control, this person is also required to participate in the grading & needs to be an established grader before being able to take on this role.

No experience is required and all training will be provided.

Cleaning Work

Every morning the Farm Shop & Staff Room requires a thorough clean before the shop opens at 9am. We need someone willing, thorough and punctual to come in at 8am to get everything clean & tidy before the shop opens for the day. This role is normally done by a grader as they can get in early, clean, have a little break and then go straight on to grading. But it can be done by anyone willing to put the work in.

Casual Farm Work

We sometimes have some odd jobs around the farm that we need help with outside of the cherry season and we will keep this section updated with any work we need help with.

Netting Work

In the Spring, sometime between the middle & end of May each year, we spend a day putting the netting out over our cherries to protect them from the birds. We require a small team of six people to cover the entire orchard in a day. This role requires the net to be pulled over the wires with the tractor doing most of the work, tucking the net under the bottom wire, and then pegged & clipped in place.
